Last week was a busy “baseball” week for my son. He is 11 years old and plays for a travel baseball team. My son is one of those people who tends to be good at everything. I know you’re saying of course you say that you’re his mother. That’s true but at 11 years old he is blessed with so many gifts and talents. However, it seems like he takes them for granted at times. And that’s probably normal for his age.
As his mother it gets frustrating when he gets lazy and doesn’t put forth the effort.
Well, last Thursday his baseball coach told his baseball team the same thing. The boys had an early morning game and ended up losing by 15. This coach is usually pretty mild-mannered and doesn’t really get on the boys too much when they mess up. But this day was different.
He told the boys he saw no H-D-H on the field. No Heart, Desire, or Hustle. He told them they must have it if they wanted to be successful on the baseball field and in life in general.
It got me thinking about my own life. Looking back I was blessed to have people “pour” into me at an early age. Fortunately, I’ve always had family and coaches in my corner.
They instilled in me at early age that “the sky’s the limit”. They taught me to go after what I wanted. Although knowing what I wanted wasn’t always clear. I had a clearer idea of what I didn’t want.
I knew I definitely didn’t want to go through life with a bunch of regrets. You know a lot of “should of, could of, would of”.
I’ve used that to motivate me to change careers after 12 years and even start a business.
As the saying goes, “I may not be there yet, but I am closer than I was yesterday”.
Let me take this opportunity to “pour” into you and tell you that the world is waiting for you to unleash your gifts. Playing small doesn’t serve anyone.
Heart Desire and Hustle will get you there and keep you in the game.
