Our lives are becoming more and more demanding. We are working longer hours, our kids are getting busier with extra-curricular activities which require our time, and we have a ton of things on our minds. All of this creates physical and mental stress.
What is Mental Stress?
To put it simply it is a decrease in our normal behavior that affects our performance, mood, and activity.
It is typically the result of extended periods of demanding mental effort, prolonged work focused on a particular task, lack of sleep, poor diet, dehydration, or high levels of general stress and emotion.
Night shift nurses and anyone else with a taxing and demanding job are definitely prone to mental stress.
Can you identify with any of these symptoms?
1) inability to concentrate
2) difficulty learning
3) an increase in mistakes
4) short term memory impairment
5) delayed decision-making abilities
If mental stress is left unaddressed it will eventually affect your physical performance as well. It can affect all aspects of your well-being and vigor including mind, emotions, spirit and body. Therefore, it requires a comprehensive approach to combat this temporary, but very problematic condition.
Of course, lifestyle changes are important to manage mental stress–short breaks at work, adequate rest, proper diet, and plenty of water. But besides these approaches you need remedies that promote clarity of mind and concentration, balance body functions, enhance endurance and increase the energy of mind and body.
Has your mind ever felt cloudy and you have a hard time thinking clearly, prioritizing your tasks, or maybe even speaking clearly?
Maybe sometimes you forget where you’ve placed something important, lost your keys, or you had something clever to say, only for it to escape your mind. It can be a very frustrating feeling!
Fortunately, essential oils provide profound and immediate mind-enhancing effects by directly impacting the limbic system.
A great oil to get rid of this mental cloud and help you recall that clever thought, or possibly recall where those misplaced items are, is Clarity essential oil blend.
It uses the power of peppermint and combines it with other invigorating and inspiring oils to promote a clear mind and amplify mental alertness, vitality and focus.
Place a few drops in the palm of your hands and cup your hand over your nose and mouth and deeply inhale. You can also place a few drops on the edge of your ears, wrists, neck, temples or bottoms of your feet.
The second remedy is in connection with Clarity because the mind is critically important for reducing mental stress. This remedy works to support the mind by giving it things it needs to work and sharpen itself.
So with that being said, while essential oils can dramatically enhance the mind we also need key nutrients to improve mental alertness. We can find these in the B vitamins.
They are essential for overall good health and play a key role in the production of energy. A great way to make sure you're getting an adequate amount of B vitamins is the product Super B by Young Living.
During times of stress your body consumes greater quantities of nutrients, severely depleting levels of B vitamins- especially B6 and B5. If you are deficient of B vitamins it can lead to a variety of mood disorders. So you can see why they are essential for emotional and mental wellness.
Taking charge of mental stress is a step in the right direction to achieve optimum health and wellness. For total wellness and balance physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects should be addressed as well.
