With Nurses week and Mother's Day behind us hopefully you found the time to do something nice for yourself. Pampering yourself is so important especially when you are so used to taking care of everyone else.
I must admit I sometimes have to force myself to take time out for me. The last massage and pedicure I had were all thanks to my husband. You see he has become a Groupon fanatic. He is constantly on the lookout for the best deals of the day for anything from beauty services to get a ways to great restaurant deals. Lucky for me he is always finding full body massage specials and mani/pedi deals for 50-90% off the regular price. You can't beat that!
Sites like Groupon and Living Social have become very popular especially in this economy where everyone is looking for a deal. Who doesn't love price cuts?
If you have never used Groupon it is very easy to get started. You simply go to the site and sign up. It will track your current city or the closet city near you that participates in Groupon deals. It also allows you to personalize your deals by asking for your gender and age so that you get deals that are relevant to you.
So far from these "deal of the day" sites I have gotten mani/pedis, full body massages, mobile massages where the massage therapist has come to my home, several great deals from fine restaurants, and much more.
You know when you are on an airplane and the flight attendant says "in the event of an emergency place the oxygen on yourself first and then on your child"? Have you ever really thought about that rationale?
Simply put, If we don't take care of ourselves then we are no good to someone else.
As nurses, we serve others in the workplace then we come home and serve our families and loved ones. It's easy to become drained and tapped out. At times it may feel like you have had the life sucked out of you because of all you do.
That's why I am such a strong advocate for serving ourselves too. If you are frugal and don't really like to spend money on yourself then the deals of the day sites that I've mentioned are perfect for you.
When I got my Shellac nails done last week I actually had a groupon for a manicure but just upgraded my service for a very small fee to the Shellac overlay. I enjoyed pampering myself and have vowed to have "me time" at least twice a month.
What about you?…When's the last time you thought about pampering yourself and actually did? Drop me a comment below and tell me about it!
